Press release -
Regions choose Epic and NNIT for healthcare IT on Zealand
The task of implementing one common IT platform for hospitals and clinics in the Regions Zealand and Hovedstaden has been entrusted to the partnership Epic and NNIT. The IT task at hand is one of the absolutely largest public IT tenders this year and the solution will show the way ahead for IT systems in the Danish healthcare sector.
The patient must be at the centre of attention in the healthcare system – and also in the IT systems designed to support their treatment. This will be the case to a greater extent with the new solution from Epic, which will replace a large number of existing systems. One benefit will be just one patient chart for one patient. This will support the Regions’ wish to continue streamlining the healthcare sector while offering patients even better treatment.
The regions have chosen a tried and tested system, already in use at internationally acclaimed hospitals including the majority of USA’s leading hospitals as Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Stanford, and Yale, as well as Cambridge in the UK. Even though the system must obviously be adjusted to the specific needs of the two regions it will fundamentally be the same as the one used the world over. This means that the system is constantly configured on the basis of input from many organisations and users around the world.
“We are very proud that we together with Epic have been entrusted with this task and we look forward to proving to the Regions and their citizens that we are the right choice. In a global perspective, only a handful of healthcare organisations of a size comparable to the Regions’ have successfully implemented electronic patient charts. And they have all been Epic clients,” says Jan Kold, Vice President in NNIT.
Jan Kold also refers to results from Holland, where all hospitals using Epic systems have achieved HIMSS stage 6, which is the second highest rating of a hospital’s IT readiness performed by the non-profit organisation Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). There are only a handful of stage 6 hospitals in Europe.
NNIT is partnering with Epic on the basis of the company’s expertise within implementation of complex IT systems in large organisations, insight into healthcare IT for the Danish healthcare sector as well as a long-standing collaboration with Region Hovedstaden.
