The Danish Agency for Digital Government appoints NNIT as supplier of the eID Gateway

The Danish Agency for Digital Government (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) has, following a tender, entered into a multi-year agreement with NNIT for the further development, maintenance, and operational support of the national eID Gateway until 2030.

The electronic ID (eID) Gateway has been in operation since 2018 and is a central part of Denmark’s implementation of the EU’s eIDAS (electronic Identification, Authentication and trust Services) regulation. The solution allows foreign citizens to log into Danish self-service solutions using their national eID, and enables Danes to use MitID in other EU countries’ systems. In this way, the gateway supports free movement, trade, and intergovernmental cooperation across borders, while also meeting the highest standards for security and stability.

Based on a thorough evaluation, the Danish Agency for Digital Government has awarded NNIT the delivery contract on the basis of an overall assessment of the criteria “quality” and “price.”

"We are facing an exciting and socially important task, where we can bring our strong competencies in development, DevOps, and security into play to ensure both a secure and stable solution that strengthens Denmark’s critical digital infrastructure. This is not just a project; it is an opportunity to contribute to the foundation for a more seamless and digital collaboration across borders. We are proud of the responsibility entrusted to us and full of energy to apply our knowledge to solutions that make a real difference for both citizens and businesses," says Kasper Søndergaard Andersen, Senior Vice President, Head of Region Denmark, NNIT.

Scope of the agreement
NNIT’s task will be to manage the entire lifecycle of the eID Gateway’s development, operations, and security, which includes, among other things:

  • Further development of the platform with new components and improved functionality
  • Setup and maintenance of automated processes in DevOps
  • Test management, including strategy, planning, and quality assurance of deliverables
  • Operations and maintenance tasks in collaboration with the Danish Agency for Governmental IT Services (Statens IT), which provides infrastructure and databases
  • Implementation of security measures, including backups, recovery plans, and ongoing compliance checks
