The Danish Health Data Authority selects NNIT and Edora for central development project on national health data
The Danish Health Data Authority (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen) has appointed NNIT and Edora to play a key role in establishing phase 1 of the program aimed at improving the use of health data - an ambitious public digitalization initiative set to unfold in Denmark over the coming years.
The project will build a new national hub infrastructure designed to make it significantly easier for researchers, authorities, and companies to access and use health data for research, innovation, and quality improvement.
A national solution with major societal value
The project includes developing a unified portal that streamlines access to health data, as well as an infrastructure that links data sources, analysis environments, and supercomputing capacity into one cohesive digital architecture.
The solution will ensure faster application processes, standardized data handling, high data security, and a modern platform for advanced analytics - including AI and high-performance computing.
“This project is a textbook example of how the public and private sectors can accomplish something together that neither could achieve alone. We look forward to close and constructive collaboration with the Danish Health Data Authority and the other program partners,” says Kasper Søndergaard Andersen, Senior Vice President, Head of Region Denmark, NNIT.
“We are incredibly proud to be selected for a project that will have such a major impact on Danish research and the healthcare sector. The vision is clear, the need is great, and we look forward to contributing our experience in secure digital infrastructure and public-sector solutions,” says Mads Hedegaard, CEO at Edora.
NNIT and Edora will contribute as providers of architecture, development, security, and implementation of key elements of the new national infrastructure.
Strong cross-sector collaboration
The solution is being developed in close cooperation with the Danish Health Data Authority, the Ministry of the Interior and Health, the regions, municipalities, and other national stakeholders through the data-responsible authorities in the healthcare sector and Statistics Denmark (Danmarks Statistik).
The first deliverables from the project are expected to launch one year after project start.
With the establishment of the national portal and hub infrastructure, Denmark is taking a major step towards a coherent and modern system that will strengthen research, innovation, and clinical development in the decades ahead.
NNIT and Edora look forward to contributing to a solution that will form a new digital foundation for health data in Denmark.
