Key targets and commitments for 2022

Understanding our business from the perspective of how we impact the planet is complex, and we believe the best model is to disclose and communicate what we find and have a transparent dialogue on our work with our own objectives and in collaboration with customers, authorities and competitors in the same industry.

A key pillar of our sustainability framework is based on the ESG principles. Since 2020, our ESG efforts have been externally audited with the objective of continuously improving the way we operate. For 2022, we received a score of 16.2 on a scale of 0-100, 0 being the best score. We are therefore very happy to once again be categorized as a low-risk company and to be placed at the top of our industry.

Another key pillar in our sustainability framework is the UN Global Compact (UNGC). In 2022, we participated as an early adopter of UNGC’s new communication on progress format, which we hope will increase both the transparency and comparability of our commitments to both the UNGC 10 principles and the Sustainable Development Goals, while also easing the reporting process for all members.

"We’ve warmly welcomed the new CoP reporting setup. We see the work with sustainability across the 10 Principles framework as a joint effort among the UNGC members, and we expect that, based on this new setup, we’ll be able to compare efforts and define new ambitious targets." says Sara Stendevad, Senior Communications and Sustainability Consultant.

Highlights 2022

We:

  • committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce our CO2 emissions in line with climate science
  • significantly increased our GHG Scope 3 reporting
  • obtained an ISO 14001 certification for our headquarters, Tianjin office in China and for our data centers
  • were once again rated as a low-risk company with an ESG score of 16,2, placing NNIT as top rated in our industry
  • kept our data centers highly energy efficient

As an international IT company, we see it as our responsibility to take care of the environment and minimize our impact on the climate. In August 2022, we committed to the Science Based Targets initiative, joining over 3,000 other businesses and institutions in reducing our CO2 emissions in line with climate science. We see it as important step on the long road to becoming carbon-neutral and setting new strategic targets knowing that IT and data comes at a carbon price.

In 2023, we will continue to work on both short and long-term goals as part of our commitment to Science Based Targets initiative, our work with the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and our selected UN Sustainable Development Goals and strive to reach our objectives and set new ones along the way.

Although setting targets is necessary, we still believe that when it comes to sustainability in general, targets are always moving, and to be contributing, we need to push boundaries. We can always do better, but we cannot do it as an individual business; it is a collaboration with customers, authorities, and even competitors.
